Alternative Energy Technologies

      The alternative energy technologies programme develops, promotes and exchanges energy technologies that will improve the live of the poor. This includes teechnologies and social services related to improved cookstove for cooking and heating, kitchen improvement, indoor air pollution and enterprise development as well as climate change adaptation and disaster mitigation, taking into consideration the gender dimension in development.

Collaborative Research Group on Gender and Energy (CRGGE)

Approtech Asia's Executive Director Ms. Feri G. Lumampao is a member of the Collaborative research Group on Gender and energy (CRGGE). Other members are international scientist and researchers engaged in energy, gender and related programs for two decades or more in Africa, Asia and europe.


ENERGIA in the Philippines

Approtech Asia is the National Focal Point (NFP) of ENERGIA in the Philippines. ENERGIA is an international network on gender and sustainable energy which links individuals and groups concerned with gender and energy in developing countires.

ENERGIA Advisory Group

Approtech Asia Executive Director Ms. Feri G. Lumampao is elected to the Advisory Group 2006 of ENERGIA- The International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy. Approtech Asia Network on Renewable Energy

The following network has on-going activities and has prepared and submitted proposals for technical assistance.

  • Rice Husk Gasifier - Appropriate Technology Center Director Engr. Alexis T. Belonio, Central Philippine University, Iloilo City. A manual had been published. In Negros Occidental, Engr. Dioscoro P. Maranon of West Negros College is also doing research and inventions on gasifier and other improved cookstove for households and micro-small industries.

  • Biogas Technology - Affiliated Non-Conventional Energy Center Project Leader Rene Alburo, San Carlos University, Cebu City. Backstopping is our in-house Technical Staff Ronnie S. Mataga who participated in the International Seminar on Biogas Technology for Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development in Beijing, China sponsored by UN APCAEM and Training on Professional Development on Appropriate Urban Environmental Management Training Course at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand sponsored by SEA UEM CIDA-AIT.

  • Biofuel production (Jatropha curcas) - commercial plantation with a Multi-purpose Cooperative headed by Tony Vergara and production of Biofuel with the Mindanao Inventors, Association Engr. Samuel A. Abrenilla. Our network in India has the machinery and technology for the production of biofuel from Jatropha. Jatropha is grown in barren lands.

  • Gender and energy - Approtech Asia in-house technical staff and National Anti-Poverty Commission Chief of the Special Concerns Unit Ms. Suzette Pido, Sibol ng Agham at Teknolohiya (SIBAT) Executive Director Ms. Vicky Lopez, Integral Development Services Philippines, Inc. Programme Manager Imelda D. Soriano, MD, MPH, SEARSOLIN Director Ms. Rachel Polestico, among others are advocates on gender-energy-water-poverty.

The Improved Cookstove Program of the Philippines (ICS-P) facilitates the transfer of technology on solar dryers for fish drying, herbals, fruits, etc. and rice-hull fruit dehydrators.
