Appropriate Technology Development and Dissemination Approtech Asia encourages and facilitates the development, promotion and marketing of mature technologies of member and partner-organizations in the third world countries through electronic media, cross fertilization programme, training courses and study visits, and face-to-face exchange of ideas, skills and experiences.
The regional training Orientation course on the Principles and Practices of Appropriate technology Development is a month-long course designed to provide a venue for exchange of expertise and experiences on different technologies. The first course was conducted in 1990, focused on Appropriate Technology as a Development Strategy. This was followed by courses in sustainable Agriculture Systems, Ecologically-Sound Agro-forestry Systems, Food Processing for Women, water and environment Sanitation, Alternative Energy Systems, Indigenous Knowledge and Sustainable Agriculture, Indigenous Health Systems and Practices, Agricultural Biotechnology, Low-cost Housing Technologies and Sustainable Communities, Organic Farming systems and Healthy Lifestyle, among others. This regional training course is sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), under its Third Country Training Programme. (TCTP)
